Why does my opponent want to decrease transparency and decrease the residents’ oversight of our city government?

Why does the Mayor endorse less oversight and less democracy in Redondo Beach?

I am your City Treasurer.  But I do not own the job.  The job of Redondo Beach City Treasurer is held in trust by the individual whom the people of Redondo Beach elect to the position.  The role of City Treasurer is authorized by the City Charter of Redondo Beach which is duly authorized by the people of Redondo Beach.  The individual elected to the position does not own the position.  As such …

Integrity is Everything

Los Angeles — Redondo Beach City Treasurer Steven Diels wins court challenge over opponent’s misleading March election ballot statement.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joanne B. O’Donnell ruled El Segundo insurance broker Eugene Solomon must amend his “misleading” and “not so thinly veiled… attacks” consistent with the court’s ruling. Solomon’s assertion that the City Treasurer “tripled expenses over the last few years” relies on his misreading of the City’s budget. The court ruled that the statement is “misleading” and must be removed. Mr. Diels expressed relief …

Integrity and Environmental Stewardship are core values of mine.

Integrity and Environmental Stewardship are core values of mine.

My fellow candidate claims his position on the South Bay Parkland Conservancy (SBPC) is his major environmental accomplishment and yet I have personally raised more money for parks and succeeded in protecting more open space than the SBPC. The SBPC has been reported to the IRS to be in violation of tax deductible status. Real world accomplishments do matter. The SBPC raises money to sue the City, not to preserve parks and open space. Suing the city …

MEASURE CT:  Reduction of Hours and Salary for City Treasurer – SUPPORT

Last year, the Redondo Chamber Local Issues Committee voted to support Steve Diels in his 2013 bid to be the City Treasurer, in large part due to his promise to reform the position and save the city money.
