Los Angeles — Redondo Beach City Treasurer Steven Diels wins court challenge over opponent’s misleading March election ballot statement.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joanne B. O’Donnell ruled El Segundo insurance broker Eugene Solomon must amend his “misleading” and “not so thinly veiled… attacks” consistent with the court’s ruling. Solomon’s assertion that the City Treasurer “tripled expenses over the last few years” relies on his misreading of the City’s budget. The court ruled that the statement is “misleading” and must be removed. Mr. Diels expressed relief that the ruling protects the integrity of the Redondo Beach election process “Honesty and integrity are cornerstones of our democracy and of the public trust in our treasury. Judge O’Donnell upheld that standard.”
